Despite the huge advantage LEDs offer in terms of energy efficiency, widespread acceptance has been slow due to their relatively high bulb cost. Compared to traditional sources like incandescent, halogen and compact fluorescent, LEDs are more expensive. When analyzed over the life of the bulb, however, LEDs use less energy and last years longer, making them remarkably cost-effective. Compact fluorescent bulbs, in contrast, perform poorly in all of these areas. They are slow to warm up, difficult to dim, and cant withstand frequent on-off switching because it reduces the bulbs life span.
